Boeing Company Presentation Highlights May Meeting

Huntington Beach - The May Chamber meeting was held onsite at one of our great corporate partners - The Boeing Company at their conference center in Huntington Beach.

We were honored to have as our main presenter, Liz Riede (upper left) who is the director of the entire Boeing Supplier Diversity department.  Liz shared with us the organization charts for the Boeing Company and the Company's commitment to Supplier Diversity and, in particular, their Native American Initiative.

Dave Padilla (upper right) and Anna Johnson of our Advisory Council were also present to meet and discuss with American Indian businesses how to position ourselves for doing business with Boeing.

Our other presentation during the meeting was from the Southern California Indian Center's InterTribal Entertainment multimedia training program.

Roscoe Pond of the InterTribal Entertainment program of the Southern California Indian Center (SCIC) spoke on the program's efforts to train American Indians to obtain high paying positions in the entertainment industry.  The program offers youths the opportunity to learn how to shoot video, prepare a script, participate in sound capture, computer edit their videos and learn from industry experts on what it takes to have a career in the entertainment industry.

Paula Starr, the Executive Director of  the SCIC described the efforts of the Center on this program  A short video was shown which was a compilation of the student's work for the winter/spring program session.  This video featured some of the session's high points from the student's perspective.

Thanks to all who attended!!

The American Indian Chamber of Commerce from California's San Diego Chapter is ready to go, the first formal event will be a "kick-off" luncheon coming in September.  Pre-planning in on-going so stay tuned for the details.

The Chamber Chapter guidelines are:

• Geographic regions are to be no closer than 1 1/2 hours driving distance from each other - our goal regions to start Chapters are in San Diego County, Central Joaquin Valley/Fresno Area, Central Coast (Santa Barbara/Santa Maria Region), Sacramento and the Bay Area.

• Each region must be founded with no less than five certified general members

• A Chapter Formational Coordinator must be named to arrange and communicate with Chapter members and Chamber Board

• Once formed the more formal Chapter organization will include a Chapter Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer and after a year formational period will have one seat on the state board

The Chamber is actively seeking American Indian business people from throughout the state to join in and form a Chapter in their area, a Chapter that will be committed to the mission of the Chamber and to a spirit of joining in one voice for all American Indian business people in California.

Member Support is Needed to Staff Chamber Booth @ SCIC Annual Pow-wow August 23rd

The Chamber participates each year in the West Coast's largest Pow-wow held each August at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.  We staff an outreach booth where we promote the Chamber, look for new members, assist other American Indians with business tips and start-up advice and show general support for the community.  We need members who are available to sign up for 3-hour overlapping shifts from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm for booth set-up, staffing and take down.  Contact info@aiccsocal.org to volunteer.  This is a really fun day!
